solving problems

If you think the price of winning is too high, wait till you get the bill of regret.

 Problems:

Sort out the problems, one step at a time. Follow the following steps.

Time

(Foremost, most important, ask when is the deadline and break the problems into many steps on a time basis, which occurs after which? Know what takes more time and may ruin your entire plan if its deadline is not taken care of. Know if your standard or expectation meets the standard of the time schedule if any.

Manpower

(Experts, Consultancy or consultants, people with similar problems who have solved them, workers related, skilled manpower, mentors, and so on who can be part of your problems ecosystem? Contact them. Know if your standard or expectation meets the standard of the time schedule if any.

Materials and Tools

Arrange the materials. Arrange the Store. Know which materials to use and when. Allocate them as per the schedule. Make sure of their availability in the required time.  Make sure that the materials you are expecting to use are available in the market or in stock.

Measurement
Measure everything you can so you can have a solid target and judge objectively. It helps to achieve goals easily.

Elaborations on various aspects with examples.

Time: Time is the most important of anything. Does it have a deadline? How is the problem related to time? Does it need to be done before something or after something? can it be done at any time? which work depends on what?

Consider curry making. Here, salt can be added at any time. the powder can be added at any time. But our priority should be that it won't be fried too much and changed to charcoal. Consider the action which is time dependent.

For any problem, break it down into smaller steps.  Then decide on which is the critical factor or which cannot be changed at all and which is flexible? For example, in the above example, rather than focusing on putting salt in the curry, make sure that it won't be overcooked though salt is important. As overcooking will ruin the curry.

Curry Problem:

Overcooked or dried out: function of time (timely addition of water)

Salt: Function of Quantity.

For example, consider the insertion of a grille in the wall. Here, the wall is the flexible one but the grille size cannot be altered as it comes in the site. So, the hole should be according to the grille and the wall needs to act accordingly.

For any work, understand the step from the beginning till the end, so you can write in a notebook when you should be reminded about what.

80% of your work: about what you know

20%: What you will learn during the execution.

If you discover a problem, You are an entrepreneur.

Take the problem as an opportunity. It is an opportunity to improve. Don't wait for it to disappear. Even if it may disappear for a while for any reason, it may appear again. Take it as an opportunity.

Any improvement may take time. It starts from zero. And it slowly increases. Be careful if it has an upper limit. If it is done too much, maybe it will ruin it. For example salt in the curry. If less, you can correct it by adding later.

Simplify any problem as a linear problem though many variables are included there.

Time is moving from the beginning till the end. It is running now. It was running yesterday. So, take care of what aspect needs to be taken care of relative to time.

Elimination & Measuring Techniques

Date: Jan 31/ 2023 (Elimination & Measuring Technique)

Today I realized the following may be the solution for any problems.

If there is a problem or any process

1. Ask yourself what the final solution looks like. say, completed the solution fine and tidily within the deadline with efficient budget allocation.

2. Measure everything which you can measure. For example, in any project, you can measure the money, say 12 million, that is invested in a particular time period, say day/month/year with say 12 manpower, for this particular work and so on. Also, calculate the profit. Limit the budget for each allocation. Know how much profit you must make from each step.

3. Eliminate the unnecessary:  Identity what you must not do. Then identify what you should not do. Then Identify what you do not want to do. Eg. In any project, you must not go away from BOQ. You must not take longer than the deadline. Otherwise, you may face legal action. you should not delay the material delivery. it avoids future project delays. You don't want to make workers sad. It may include raising the salary or anything. It is your wish. This step of elimination helps you to choose from the positive as there are many positive options. Removing the negative at the first process helps to remove the confusion of whether it is positive. Eg. Start cleaning your room by throwing what you don't need in the dustbin. Then other items have a place of their own which you can tidy up later. Another real-time example, if we want to lose weight in Gym, we should first know what we don't want. We don't want back pain. We don't want headaches after the gym. So, then select the type of exercise based on what you don't want. Then select the exercise based on what you want eliminating the type of exercise which you don't want.

4. Time is everything. Take it as it is the most important and it is. In any problem first, ask how it is related to time and if it has a deadline. How it may behave with the passing of time. Break down the process into steps and ask yourself which step should not be later than what deadline. Realize the importance of timely work.

5. Money is the essence. Money flows from beginning to end. So, proper flow is necessary. Make proper use of money by allocating the money at the proper time. Don't freeze money ahead of when it is needed.

6. Learn to save money by reusing and proper planning. Eg. Reuse the tools and other items and eliminate the need to purchase new items.

7. Keep measuring.

Application in my real life: Tomorrow I am leaving for Mahendranagar. I applied the above rules. I decided I don't want to be there with dirty clothes and look miserable as it last for 10 days. Then I washed clothes and extra socks. I don't want to be there without money. Then I took money from ATM. Also, I don't want to be there without a mobile and ID card. Then I put in a card. So, this step, I hope will save me from becoming miserable. Then my other plan for what I want comes.

Ask why you should do anything? Would you be miserable if you don't be?

These above steps help to keep stress and unnecessary desires at a minimum.

Comments

  1. If you see pain, take it as an opportunity to improve. Eg. If your employee complains hard walking too much, take it as a opportunity to optimize problems by either increasing salary or purchasing bike. Don't wait for problems to disappear
